Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $282,326)
The La Crosse Police Department is the fiduciary agent for the Midwest Regional Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) Training Center. The project is responsible for promoting and marketing the G.R.E.A.T program to jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies within the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In addition, the Midwest Regional G.R.E.A.T Training Center is responsible for organizing and conducting regional training programs while providing logistical support to the G.R.E.A.T agencies in the region. The project conducts five Officer Trainings, two Families Trainings, and one In-Service per year. In order to promote activities conducted by the Regional Training Center, the project participates in at least eight regional conferences involving both law enforcement and educational venues. The Midwest Region G.R.E.A.T Training Center will continue to foster ongoing relationships with potential or existing G.R.E.A.T. agencies by encouraging these agencies to share their innovative programming and partnering ideas through their regional newsletter and website.
