Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $561,180)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office will utilize this award to advance its justice technology to aid in the department's performance of duties and service to the citizens of Henderson. The department will purchase the most technologically advanced police equipment allowing for improvements that will provide for the protection of persons and property. The equipment will also improve efficiency and allow officers to spend more time on the streets and less time in the office. Additionally, with the most technically advanced equipment, personnel will be better equipped to investigate, pursue, and convict those persons who are committing crimes in the community.
