Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $999,871)

The Justice Solutions Group Team (JSG Team) will present justice system and correctional facility planning as an interactive, dynamic process that tribes engage in to (1) identify local or regional factors that contribute to crime and delinquency; (2) identify local or regional strengths and resources that prevent crime and delinquency; (3) understand the continuum of services and sanctions that address crime, delinquency and recidivism; and (4) plan appropriately designed and sized facilities that are integrated within an effective continuum of services that are responsive to tribal and/or regional needs. The ultimate goal of this planning process is to create a system that effectively reduces crime, and supports the development of healthy, safe, and productive tribal communities.

The JSG Team will work collaboratively with the Bureau of Justice Assistance and an expert advisory committee to develop curricula and publications; provide technical assistance; and disseminate information to tribal planning teams that reflect an understanding of the unique attributes and challenges of tribal criminal justice systems.
