The Council of State Governments Justice Center will help state and local jurisdictions achieve better outcomes for individuals with mental illness involved in the criminal justice system by providing training and technical assistance to support collaborative criminal justice/mental health projects. The Justice Center will: plan for and host a national training event on 'Creating Better Outcomes for Individuals with Mental Illness in the Criminal Justice System;' print and disseminate technical assistance documents developed for the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA); and, provide targeted technical assistance to state and local government officials in those states that have not received funding support through the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP). Through national training and targeted technical assistance to selected non-grantee states, this project will leverage BJA's investment in the JMHCP to expand access to the expertise and learning developed by and for grantees and thereby expand its impact on individuals and jurisdictions across the country.
