Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $368,948)
Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) provides peer support to families who have suffered the loss of a fallen law enforcement officer. Funding from this grant will support the National Police Survivors' Conference, two survivor-specific workshops, speaking engagements at law enforcement and victims' conferences, printing of resource materials for the "Traumas of Law Enforcement" trainings, costs associated with the Blue Ribbon Campaign, other mailings, and support for surviving family members. Trainings, workshops, newsletters, consultants, mental health professionals, hired staff, and strong peer support from "seasoned" survivors will bring information to the C.O.P.S. membership and law enforcement agencies across the county on what survivors need to rebuild their shattered lives. The far-reaching goals and objectives of this grant are to provide emotional support to the survivors and to bring as much healing as possible without causing additional trauma.
