Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $200,000)
The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court implementation, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.
The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services - Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse will use statewide Drug Court Enhancement funds to ensure that all drug courts in the State will coordinate services, share recidivism information, and receive ongoing training. Under the leadership of the Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, stakeholders from a variety of disciplines and jurisdictions will be tasked to provide a statewide database and essential training for the 49 operational courts in the state.
