Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $100,000)
The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.
Multnomah County will use Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program funds to enhance its existing drug court program by employing two recovery mentors tasked with providing additional services to clients in order to increase the likelihood of successful rehabilitation. Specifically, participants will be linked to resources in the community for housing, employment, and health care. Additionally, recovery mentors will model and teach effective stress management and problem-solving skills and help build healthy support networks. It is anticipated up to 33 clients will receive these services at a time, with as many as 132 clients participating in recovery mentoring per year.
