The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.
The Judicial Council of California will use the drug court enhancement grant to address the unique issues faced by female participants addicted to methamphetamine. They will prepare them to reintegrate into the community and develop a lifestyle that is useful and productive. The funding will be used to: a) purchase residential treatment beds, through a program that is focused on females and the particular issues that they experience through substance abuse; b) increase drug and alcohol testing to assist the Probation Officer during office and home visits to ensure that program participants are maintaining a clean and sober lifestyle; and c) pay overtime for Sheriff's personnel who accompany Probation Officers on home visits to ensure that participants are in a safe and secure home environment for themselves and their families.
