The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court implementation, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.

The Administrative Office of the Courts of Georgia will use statewide drug court enhancement funds to enhance the provision of leadership in the development, expansion, operation, quality improvement, and evaluation of Georgia's Drug Court system. This enhancement will focus on the following two objectives: best practices training for all adult felony and DUI drug court judges, team members and staff; and conducting a 'Training of Trainers' session in collaboration with the National Drug Court Institute (NDCI). Both of these objectives will provide enhanced training and technical assistance opportunities for drug court teams among Georgia drug courts.
