Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $750,000)

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) will provide development and engineering support to the Law Enforcement National Data Exchange (N-DEx) Project Management Office (PMO) in the areas of information sharing, Extensible Markup Language (XML), data bases, Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM), National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), and Law Enforcement Information Sharing Program (LEISP) Exchange Specification (LEXS). N-DEx will provide law enforcement agencies (LEAs) with a powerful new investigative tool to search, link, analyze and share criminal justice information (e.g., incident and case reports, etc.) on a national basis. The primary beneficiary will be local law enforcement, America's first line of defense against crime and terrorism. It will allow participating LEAs to detect relationships between people, places, things and crime characteristics, link information across jurisdictions, and allow them to 'connect the dots' between seemingly unrelated data without information overload.
