Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $1,000,000)

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will continue the development, deployment, expansion, and enhancement of the Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) Officer Safety Event Deconfliction System (RISSafe). Through RISSafe, IIR provides law enforcement officers with tools to improve their personal safety and the safety of other officers while conducting investigations or other events. RISSafe is the tool developed to identify potential conflicts between two or more groups of officers conducting operations in close proximity at the same time. By entering planned events or investigative activities into a central location, officers can compare active and pending operations against other operations within a geographical locale. RISS is an innovative law enforcement program that supports regional law enforcement efforts to combat terrorist and criminal activity.
