Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $120,000)

The Florida Office of the Attorney General will support the National Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community Project. The goal of the project is to foster collaboration, communication, and action on a national level among African-American, criminal justice leaders and practitioners by sharing innovative ideas, research, causative factors and prevention strategies unique to the Black community. The National Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community will focus on increasing law enforcement participation through the use of professional development scholarships that will encourage and supplement officer's ability to attend. The goal are to increase criminal justice agencies' ability to problem solve and modify current policies and practices by expanding the scholarship program to target ten urban communities with the highest African-American populations and increase information provided to the criminal justice community by net-widening marketing and media outreach of the conference.
