Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $97,338)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local governments, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The disparate jurisdictions consisting of York County, York City, and York Township will use their Fiscal Year 2009 JAG award in the amount of $97,338 towards salaries, overtime costs, administrative fees, law enforcement programs, and equipment purchases. York County, serving as the fiscal agent, will use its share to cover consultant fees related to the York County Police Department's Nuisance Abatement Unit to address quality of life issues in the city. The York Township Police Department will use its portion to obtain a computer server to include required software and storage capacity. There will be five computer desktop work stations and software for those as well as four monitors. A video archive and associated cables will also be acquired along with coverage of administrative fees. The York City Police Department will use their grant funds to cover overtime costs related to training and directed patrols, forensic software, rifles, a bowling rental for community programs, and coverage of administrative fees.
