The purposes of the FY 2009 Tribal Courts Assistance Program (TCAP) are to develop new tribal courts, improve the operations of existing tribal courts, and provide training and technical assistance for tribal court staff. The TCAP program goals are to provide planning grants that will focus on establishing tribal courts by supporting the development of comprehensive strategy and implementation plans, provide grants for existing tribal court systems to enhance tribal court services, and provide planning grants for tribal justice system strategies.

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will use funds to enhance the Fond du Lac Tribal Court. The primary goals are to establish court codes and purchase essential equipment for the Fond du Lac Tribal Court. To ensure the effective development and implementation of tribal codes, Fond du Lac Tribal Court will hire a consultant to: assist with drafting tribal codes, rules, and policies; train the tribal judge, attorney, court administrator, and records clerk in court administration and operations; and create and maintain a records system. The second goal is to purchase equipment necessary to support court operations. The Fond du Lac Tribal Court will purchase a recording system, computers, printers, a shredder, and a video conferencing system to improve data collection, security, data backup, and computerized case management. The TCAP funds will allow Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa to improve the efficiency of Fond du Lac Tribal Court operations.
