Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $199,418)

The purpose of the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.) is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to develop and implement drug treatment courts that effectively integrate substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting with jurisdiction over nonviolent, substance-abusing offenders. The FY 2010 Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program will provide grant funds to jurisdictions to implement or enhance a local drug court or to improve, enhance, expand, or financial support drug court services statewide.

Rockdale County will use the grant funds to enhance and expand the Rockdale DUI court services by providing mental health assessment and treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders, hiring a part-time mental health counselor to conduct mental health assessments, providing individual therapy and group therapy for DUI court clients, and including the mental health provider participate in DUI court team meetings. Additionally, the county will enhance alcohol and drug testing services by testing and analyzing a larger volume of alcohol and drug specimens more effectively, hiring a part-time lab technician to collect and analyze specimens, establishing procedures for testing clients in the community, and increasing community supervision surveillance.
