Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $511,695)
The purpose of the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.) is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to develop and implement drug treatment courts that effectively integrate substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting with jurisdiction over nonviolent, substance-abusing offenders. The FY 2010 Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program will provide grant funds to jurisdictions to implement or enhance a local drug court or to improve, enhance, expand, or financial support drug court services statewide.
The Utah Department of Human Services, in collaboration with the Utah Administrative Office of the Courts, will use the statewide enhancement grant funds to enhance select adult drug courts through a training and certification initiative. This initiative will provide four high performing drug courts with the opportunity to enhance and/or expand current programmatic services. To improve statewide drug court functioning and to increase participant outcomes, the state will assist local courts to: develop statewide drug court practitioner training curriculum, implement statewide certification processes for all drug courts, and provide for local drug courts to enhance and/or expand current services. This will be accomplished with partnerships with the National Center for State Courts, the Treatment Research Institute, and the locally funded drug courts.
