Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $37,307)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

Riley County will use the 2010 local JAG funds to assist in purchasing additional software needed to complete the Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) program, an Electronic Ticket Submission program, and training of the RCPD's Analyst in the area of crime mapping for the Riley County Police Department. The goals of the project will assist in implementing an electronic ticket submission to reduce errors and time spent on redundant data entry. The GPS capable MDT will provide data analysis and dissemination of critical information to officers who require immediate situation or individual background information. This system enables all users to view calls in real time, access maps and access critical safety information and intelligence.
