Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $40,773)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The disparate jurisdictions consisting of Sutter County and Yuba City will share this FY 2010 JAG award in the amount of $40,773 toward fees to support the Interoperable Communications System and technology upgrade. The Yuba City Police Department operates the region's only fixed site interoperable radio communications system for use by public safety entities operating within approximately a thirty mile radius of its radio signal. The Sutter County Sheriff's Department will use its funds to enhance and upgrade its technology. The upgraded technology will allow the deputies to continue using the technology within their assigned vehicles so they can access various databases. The service to the community will be enhanced by allowing the deputy to quickly gather information and respond to calls for service.
