Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $19,403)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation). The Post Falls Police Department will use their FY 2010 JAG funds to purchase a new Utility All Terrain Vehicle (UTV) and an enclosed Utility Trailer and all equipment needed to make is usable for law enforcement patrol.

The city of Post Falls will use the FY 2010 JAG award to purchase a UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle). The city of Post Falls has a number of hiking and biking trails that are used by a large number of citizens who reside in Post Falls or are visitors to the area. These trails are not accessible by regular motorized police vehicles. The UTV would be an integral part of being able to patrol these areas of the city of Post Falls, not only to apprehend criminals but also to respond to other emergencies such a those of a medical nature. The requested enclosed Utility Trailer will allow all necessary equipment to be transported at one time to a crime scene. The procurement of the requested equipment is expected to aid in improved public safety in the city of Post Falls.
