Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $13,086)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The city of Euless will use the FY 2010 JAG award for law enforcement needs. The grant will fund an L-3 Mobile-Vision System "Interview Room Evidence Management System" to be used in the Criminal Investigation Division. The goals and strategies of the project are to upgrade the current video system (CID) to a new level of technology by installing a digital system to capture and manage criminal investigative video interviews. With the integration of the new L-3 system with the current L-3 systems in the Patrol Division and DWI interview room, this will enable law enforcement to have all digital interview evidence stored on one secure server. The new equipment will improve/streamline CID case building preparation (digital interview evidence) and make it possible for evidence to be presented to the county court in a more professional manner.
