The Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide commitment to reducing gun and gang crime, links existing local programs together and provides them with necessary tools. PSN 1) takes a hard line against persons involved in gun and gang crime, using every available means to create safer neighborhoods; 2) seeks to achieve heightened coordination among federal, state, and local law enforcement; and 3) emphasizes tactical intelligence gathering, more aggressive prosecutions, and enhanced accountability through performance measures. The United States Attorney in each federal judicial district will lead the offensive. The fiscal agent, in coordination with the PSN Task Force, will allocate funds throughout the community.
The National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) will support the PSN ongoing national training and technical assistance program. NDAA will deliver TTA on gang and gun issues through remote assistance, as well as on-site training and assistance. The primary focus of the TTA will be gang violence issues such as training and developing best practices relating to witness intimidation in gang cases, civil gang injunctions, responding to firearm and gang violence, and other general gang/gun related crimes as they are presented. NDAA will also support PSN Anti-Gang Trainings by attending and participating in the Advance Meetings, Executive Sessions, General Sessions, and Exhibit Halls; and continue to develop materials and resources for the field, to include: creating a monograph relating to witness intimidation, publishing newsletters or bulletins, and updating the Gun Violence Prevention website with fact sheets and other timely information in the area of gang and gun violence prosecution.
