The National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA), in conjunction with the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), will assist tribal communities to develop and enhance collaboration with state and local entities. The goal of the Tribal-State Intergovernmental Collaboration Project is to increase awareness by tribal and state government officials of the benefits of collaborative problem solving and planning and to replicate promising practices for improving public safety in tribal communities through tribal-state collaboration methods.
To accomplish this goal, the following objectives will be added to supplement this project: continue to collaborate with the NCAI on the expansion of a toolkit to guide tribal and state representatives and criminal justice stakeholders in building tribal-state collaboration efforts in justice areas; host two trainings using curricula developed; attend and present about the project at up to three DOJ sponsored events; conduct two working groups; provide onsite and distance technical assistance to assist in implementing interagency collaborations; and continue to update the resource materials, toolkits and information on the website.
