Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $6,187,390)
The Regional Information Sharing System (RISS) Program offers a variety of services and support to law enforcement agencies to include automated, centralized law enforcement databases with nationwide connectivity using internet technologies, intelligence analysis, bulletins and publications, surveillance equipment loans, confidential funds, long-distance call patching, and law enforcement and officer safety training.
The Western States Information Network (WSIN) serves the states of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington. WSIN is one of six RISS Centers that operates a secure nationwide communication and information sharing network called RISSNET. WSIN provides for secure, accurate, and timely criminal intelligence and assistance to member agencies and enhances law enforcement's ability to investigate, arrest, prosecute, and convict criminal offenders. WSIN enhances RISS by providing timely narcotic and other related criminal intelligence and assistance to its member agencies.
