Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $500,000)

The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program ensures victims of crime receive accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to their cases. Through SAVIN, victims are able to participate in the judicial process and make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization while maintaining total anonymity. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials.

The Kentucky Department of Corrections will use their 2010 SAVIN Enhancement award to expand the Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) Program to include notification related to protection orders. The Kentucky VINE Protective Order Enhancement will provide notification to victims throughout the Commonwealth when an emergency protection or a domestic violence order has been served on the perpetrator to enable the victim to implement their individual safety plan.

VINE Protective Order interfaces with Kentucky's domestic violence protective order database in the Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK) which is managed by the Kentucky State Police. This database stores and manages the domestic violence protective orders for use by law enforcement officers across Kentucky and the nation.
