Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $200,000)

The County of Sacramento will continue to combat intellectual property (IP) crimes and to enforce IP laws. Specifically, the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force will focus on IP crime enforcement. The overall grant objective is to assist state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies in enforcing criminal intellectual property laws. Due to modern day technological advances, there has been an increase in IP crimes. IP crimes pose a threat to the nation's economy and public health and safety. The task force will investigate IP cases, serve IP related search warrants, provide community outreach presentations, conduct forensic analysis of computer evidence in cases involving IP theft, provide training to law enforcement agencies in identifying and investigating IP crimes, add three new agencies to the task force, and provide technical assistance to other agencies on an as-needed basis.
