Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $200,000)
The Mississippi Attorney General's Office will conduct the following: (1) increase task force participation through reimbursement of overtime pay for approved investigations and improve the quality and reach of the Mississippi Intellectual Property Crime Center (MIPCC) web site; (2) enhance Operation K.O.K.O. (Operation Knock Out Knock Offs) - Round II (previously funded in FY 2010) by improving the MIPCC through public and private partnerships; (3) develop and implement a multi-level awareness campaign aimed at merchants and the general public; (4) increase knowledge of local authorities through intense statewide and regional trainings; and (5) assist local authorities in combating intellectual property crimes by providing investigatory, technical, and prosecutorial help. Round I established a statewide task force consisting of federal, state, and local authorities, and Round II is an ongoing project that will develop the MIPCC, a computerized database designed to assist law enforcement coordination and increase education for merchants and the public on intellectual property crimes.
