Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $349,679)
The Encouraging Innovation: Field-Initiated Programs is designed to strengthen the criminal justice system by challenging those in the field to identify and define emerging or chronic systemic issues faced by one or more components of the criminal justice continuum (includes but not limited to law enforcement, corrections, courts, and community collaborations) and to propose innovative solutions to address these issues.
George Mason University will use a quasi-experimental research design to examine the impact of a probation model called "YOURS!" on offender outcomes, including technical violation and re-arrest rates. The YOURS! model translates evidence regarding "what works" with offenders into practice, measuring outcomes, and refining the project design based on implementation progress. The use of the quality improvement process will work on implementation of the model within correctional settings. CA/NCF
