Palm Beach Sheriff's Office Data-Driven Problem-Oriented Policing Strategy

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office will continue efforts funded under their fiscal year 2009 Smart Policing Initiative grant by using data-driven problem-oriented policing strategies to combat robberies within Hispanic migrant communities. The targeted population is highly vulnerable to victimization due to reluctance in reporting crimes for fear of deportation and inherent distrust of law enforcement. Through the grant, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office will provide community outreach activities and victim advocacy and support to further break down barriers; cultural diversity training to officers and robbery detectives; and proactive investigations and patrols to obtain intelligence to prevent future crime.
