Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $325,000)

The Smart Policing Initiative (SPI) fosters the collaborative effort and strategic partnerships between probation agencies and local law enforcement agencies, broadening the collective knowledge of effective policing and probation strategies.

The city of Philadelphia will further efforts of integrating smart policing strategies into the operations of the Philadelphia Police Department. The project will use a best practice model and outcomes from work completed through the police department's Smart Policing Initiative grant program to develop data and intelligence about problems in the city and create plans to advance long-term crime reduction strategies. Temple University will serve as a research partner responsible for program design and data analysis. NCA/NCF
