Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide commitment to reducing gun and gang crime, links existing local programs together and provides them with necessary tools. PSN 1) takes a hard line against persons involved in gun and gang crime, using every available means to create safer neighborhoods; 2) seeks to achieve heightened coordination among federal, state, and local law enforcement; and 3) emphasizes tactical intelligence gathering, more aggressive prosecutions, and enhanced accountability through performance measures. The United States Attorney in each federal judicial district will lead the offensive. The fiscal agent, in coordination with the PSN Task Force, will allocate funds throughout the community.
The Mosaic Family Services, Inc., serving as the fiscal agent of the Northern District of Texas, will build upon the Districts existing anti-gang/violence program strategy in two targeted areas- one in South Dallas and the other in the North side of Fort Worth, Texas under the direction of a program director and data will be analyzed by a researcher partner. The goals are to prevent and reduce violent gang and gun crimes, expand prevention and intervention programming that will deter truancy, gang activity and crimes that involve guns by youth in the target area. The Northern District of Texas will continue to partner with the appropriate agencies in an effort to successfully implement the PSN/Anti-Gang strategy. The U.S. Attorney's Office, along with the PSN selection committee and task force, will coordinate the planning and implementation of their PSN initiative.
