Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $70,202)
Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide commitment to reducing gun and gang crime, links existing local programs together and provides them with necessary tools. PSN 1) takes a hard line against persons involved in gun and gang crime, using every available means to create safer neighborhoods; 2) seeks to achieve heightened coordination among federal, state, and local law enforcement; and 3) emphasizes tactical intelligence gathering, more aggressive prosecutions, and enhanced accountability through performance measures. The United States Attorney in each federal judicial district will lead the offensive. The fiscal agent, in coordination with the PSN Task Force, will allocate funds throughout the community.
The Idaho State Police, serving as the fiscal agent for the District of Idaho, will reduce gang activity and violence and collect accurate gang data. The data will be used for reporting and tracking purposes and will be vital in raising awareness of gang violence and recognition of the need to accurately identify gang members and areas of high gang violence. The award will be used to identify areas of need using data collected to focus on enforcement and preventative programs in areas of high gang-related activity in order to reduce gang crime and make communities safer. The PSN task force will release a request for proposals to law enforcement agencies in the targeted areas.
