Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $1,600,000)

The purpose of the Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.) is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to develop and implement drug treatment courts that effectively integrate evidence-based substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting with jurisdiction over substance-abusing offenders. Selected providers under this solicitation will support the Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.) grantees as well as the adult drug court field-at-large.

The National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP), serving as a technical assistance provider, will use the funds to assist jurisdictions in the planning and development of new drug court programs through a standardized core curriculum based on adult learning theory and the 10 Key Components of a drug court. NADCP will update these curricula to ensure that they incorporate the latest in drug court research and conduct no more than five population-specific training sessions consisting of no more than 10 drug court teams over a 12 month period.
