Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $1,200,000)
The purpose of the Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program (42 U.S.C. 3797u et seq.) is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments to develop and implement drug treatment courts that effectively integrate substance abuse treatment, mandatory drug testing, sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in a judicially supervised court setting with jurisdiction over nonviolent, substance-abusing offenders.
The American University, serving as a technical assistance provider, will use the supplemental funding to achieve these goals:
(1) onsite services, including conduct of on-site program assessments of 35 drug court programs to assess the effectiveness of their programs and the degree to which they comply with the Key Components;
(2) networking and information exchange mechanisms, including use of interactive webinars and web meetings to bring
program representatives together to address issues of common concern and/or emerging
developments; and
(3) preparing and disseminating a range of user-friendly resources to promote
implementation of the key components and culturally competent services reflecting best practices applied to all drug court program functions.
