Indiana SORNA Reallocation Project

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute will enhance programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders. This project will upgrade sex offender management software. The goal of the state is to purchase and install Live Scan devices at correctional facilities to capture data of released sex offenders. The data collected will be sent to the Indiana State Police database and made avaiable to law enforcement agencies.

This project will upgrade sex offender management software. The goal of the state is to purchase and install LiveScan devices at correctional facilities to capture data of released sex offenders. Placement of these devices will allow Indiana to capture pre-release photos, fingerprints, and palm print information which will be stored in the states Automated Fingerprint Identification System and shared by the offenders state identification number (SID) with other Indiana criminal data systems. The LiveScan devices will be compatible with the Indiana Department of Correcrtions Offender Information System and existing LiveScan systems across the state and will allow for criminal history checks against state criminal justice databases.
