Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $75,000)

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) will use the grant award to host a national summit on increasing the capacity of law enforcement in preventing wrongful convictions in order to produce a comprehensive set of best investigative practices for law enforcement leaders and investigators.

IACP will create a multi-disciplinary advisory committee to: plan and design the summit; select a diverse group of stakeholders to participate in the summit; select a set of priority concerns as the focus; design an inclusive summit program; and after the summit has been held in August 2012, craft a final report for national distribution. IACP's goal is to develop a set of policy recommendations that will increase the capacity of police, working in conjunction with the community and other justice components, to reduce wrongful arrest, prosecution, and conviction.
