Officer Safety and Wellness - Preventing Violence Against Law Enforcement and Ensuring Officer Resilience and Survivability (VALOR)

The purpose of this supplemental program is to continue and improve the immediate and long-term health, wellness, and safety of law enforcement professionals by providing a holistic approach to officer safety - encompassing not only tactical skills but also health and wellness skills. VALOR will continue to provide tactical awareness training and technical assistance (TTA) throughout the nation, coordinated by BJA and the VALOR TTA coordinator. CA/NCF

The goal of the VALOR Program is to improve immediate and long-term health, wellness, and safety of law enforcement professionals through the continued development and delivery of knowledge and skills-based training and provision of technical assistance that is supported by ongoing relevant research. This goal will be accomplished through the implementation and continuation of several major objectives. Officer-safety awareness training will be delivered both on-site and online via the VALOR Web Portal. The curriculum will address the many facets of officer safety, with an emphasis on professionalism, de-escalation, and safe officer/citizen interactions. Through the leveraging of technology, interactive training scenarios, online roll-call training modules, podcasts, and Webinars will be developed and made available to law enforcement across the United States. In addition, IIR will continue to collaborate with partner organizations to promote officer safety training and education. Upon request, technical assistance will be offered to individual agencies to help identify and support their own officer health, wellness, and safety goals. Information obtained through ongoing research will be incorporated into the training and technical assistance components of the program and communicated through the VALOR Web Portal. NCA/NCF
