Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2013, $2,302,389)
The National Center for Campus Public Safety Program Center is authorized by the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2013 (P.L. 113-6). It focuses on the creation and management of a National Center for Campus Public Safety (National Center) to support the field, foster collaboration, facilitate information sharing, policy development, model practices, operations, and research that will enhance the safety of the nation's institutions of higher education. The National Center will be a resource for campus police chiefs, directors of public safety, emergency managers and key campus safety stakeholders. The National Center will be a catalyst that brings together all forms of campus public safety, professional associations, advocacy organizations, community leaders, and others to improve and expand services to those who are charged with providing a safe environment on the campuses of the nation's colleges and universities.
Margolis Healy & Associates will improve and expand services to all who are engaged in the safety and security of our nation's colleges, universities and K-12 schools. They will work with BJA to identify and prioritize the needs of the field and reach out to key stakeholders and identify their role in The Center; connect existing federal and non-federal resources with the needs of constituents; connect major campus public safety entities with one another, and with federal agencies to facilitate collaboration and coordination around issues of campus public safety (higher education and K-12); highlight and promote best and innovative practices specific to campus public safety efforts and develop comprehensive responses that meet the complexity of needs on campus by integrating key issues in public safety; and deliver essential training and technical assistance specific to campus public safety.
