Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2013, $353,111)

Efficient and effective sharing of information between and among justice agencies and their partner organizations is at the heart of today's efforts across the nation to protect public safety and reduce offender recidivism. The project will support an existing partnership between mid-Atlantic states known as MARIS. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Information Sharing team has been collaborating to share information relating to arrests, warrants, and protection orders across state lines within a region that sees a large number of individuals travelling between states on a frequent basis. The proposal will expand the existing partnership to develop a federated query capability that would allow direct searches to be performed between states on people or subjects of interest. This represents a much more powerful, flexible, and timely solution than the current approach of performing daily downloads of bulk data. Having better access to this information will directly impact the states' ability to combat violent crime and combat the sale and use of illegal drugs and cross-jurisdiction crime. CA/NCF
