Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $900,000)

The Justice Information Sharing Training and Technical Assistance (JIS TTA) Program supports the efforts of state, local, and tribal criminal justice agencies to adopt innovative justice information sharing solutions through the provision of training and technical assistance services. This program is funded under the Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive Grant Program (Byrne Competitive Program) and the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. Authorized by Pub. L. No.113-76, , 128 Stat. 5, 62, the Byrne Competitive Program helps communities improve the functioning and capacity of their state and local criminal justice systems and provides for national support efforts including training and technical assistance programs strategically targeted to address local, state and tribal needs.

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will support to the Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative. IIR will support the information exchange and systems interoperability by working with Global membership and BJA to develop policy and technology solutions of national scope; coordinating and facilitating meetings of the Global Advisory Committee (GAC), Global Executive Steering Committee (GESC), working groups, and task teams to advance BJA and Global priorities; guiding and assisting with development of Global-related documents and products in furtherance of information sharing; and planning, developing, and supporting outreach activities to communicate Global recommendations and solutions. The goal of the project is to assist BJA in facilitation of the broad scale exchange of pertinent justice and public safety data, as well as the promotion of standards-based electronic information exchange, in a secure and trusted environment.
