Alabama Department of Economic And Community Affairs will use awarded grant funds to implement a project to achieve full PREA compliance and enhance sexual safety at Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women and all facilities under the responsibility of Alabama Department of Corrections. The project will focus on cross gender supervision, staffing and supervision, and gender-specific trauma sexual safety in facilities for women. The grantee will contract for services to assist with addressing systemic deficiencies such as a lack of gender-responsive strategies, operational practices, and internal policies. The contractor will also conduct sexual safety and PREA readiness assessments at male facilities. Grant funds will be used to hire a PREA Coordinator to compile and analyze statistical data, implement corrective action, prepare reports, and support activities related to PREA audit requirements.
