Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2015, $178,381)

The state will use this award to enhance programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote Internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders. Specifically, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services will utilize funds for the development and/or enhancement of programs designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). The Virginia Department of State Police (VSP) would like to procure a software modification to the Integra ID system. The modification would allow the SOR fingerprint transactions to be received electronically from live scan units and processed through the automated fingerprint workflow. This will greatly reduce the number of man hours spent with manual identification of SOR prints and the manual registration of new SOR prints. NCA/NCF
