The recipient will utilize the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program carve-out funds to defray police overtime and salary costs associated with the civil unrest that unfolded in Ferguson, MO following the shooting death of Michael Brown. The Brown incident has spawned a continued and unprecedented increase in violent crime in Ferguson to include substantial property damage and has put the public at risk from criminal acts of looters and arsonists.
