Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $239,980)
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is seeking grant funding to obtain a Leica ScanStation PS40, which will act as an effective force multiplier to allow the Pasco Sheriff's Office's Forensic Services Section to improve the quality and timeliness of forensic services offered to the Pasco Sheriff's Office, the six incorporated municipalities within in Pasco County, and our community partners in criminology and criminal justice. Funding will provide for the acquisition of equipment and the necessary training for forensic personnel.
Crime-scene mapping is a critical component to successful investigation and prosecution of all crimes. Highly accurate and timely crime-scene mapping and diagrams that document a crime-scene and associated evidence is of critical importance to the criminal investigation and subsequent prosecution.
This award would result in the timely availability of a powerful forensic tool that enables Forensic Investigators to more quickly and accurately document, measure, and capture in time a crime-scene using laser mapping technology. The program would significantly increase the quality and timeliness of crime-scene measuring and diagramming at the Pasco Sheriff's Office. ca/ncf.
