Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $108,332)
The Vermont Forensic Laboratory serves the entire state of Vermont and is the only accredited forensic laboratory in the state.
The efficient processing of cases, analysis of evidence, and continuous compliance with accreditation standards can be improved through grant funds applied to:
*Funding for an evidence technician position, the expansion of the evidence tech role (to include the processing of latent print cases), and overtime for the administrative management of this grant.
*Funding to assist with latent print and firearms section case work and technical reviews.
*Funding to maintain and improve LIMS,the laboratory's software system for evidence handling, case management, and laboratory management records.
*Funding to maintain accreditation status.
*Funding and purchasing necessary laboratory IT equipment (upgrade DIMS and computer systems).
*Funding to train laboratory staff.
