Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $137,849)

The goal of this project is to promote excellence in analysis, training, and forensic science and medical legal death investigation services provided by the state of Wisconsin.

Agencies working in this collaborative effort include Department of Justice, Crime Laboratory Bureau (WI-DOJ CLB), Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office (MCME), Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), and the Kenosha County Department of Human Services-Division of Health Laboratory (KCDHS).

This award will further the state’s ability to maintain a high level of quality results, decrease the number of days between submission and delivery of tests results, and reduce the backlog of samples awaiting analysis. To accomplish these objectives the state of Wisconsin will use the provided funding to maintain accreditation by supporting external assessment costs and annual proficiency tests as well as provide education, training, and certification for analysts and examiners. Using these tools, analysts and examiners will be able to address the emerging technology and concerns which will further promote improved quality, capacity, and/or timeliness throughout the State of Wisconsin.
