Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $150,000)
Funding from the FY 2017 DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program will be used within the 24-month project period, beginning on January 1, 2018.
The The County of San Mateo's Forensic Lab goals for this include:
1. Reduce casework turnaround times and backlog through the purchase of DNA supplies.
2. Maintain continuing education requirements by funding travel and training/workshop registration costs for SMCSO-FL personnel.
The SMCSO-FL anticipates a reduction in the DNA case backlog. The SMCSO-FL expects:
- to complete at least 143 cases funded by the end of the award.
- to maintain a turnaround time of 175 days or less.
- Examiner throughput to exceed 25 samples per analyst per month.
Currently, seven (7) fully qualified, independent, examiners are responsible for working on DNA cases and four (4) interns assist with general laboratory functions and screen evidence for the presence of DNA.
