The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) will use this funding to increase the capacity and efficiency of the Biology/DNA Detail.
The Biology/DNA Detail will purchase two Capillary Electrophoresis instruments that were designed for the detection of six-dye chemistry. In addition, the Biology/DNA Detail will purchase software that will interpret files from the Capillary Electrophoresis instrument for data analysis.
The Biology/DNA Detail will assess currently available NDIS-approved Y-STR amplification kits and select the kit based on performance and LVMPD needs. This kit will then be validated on the new Capillary Electrophoresis instrument using software to analyze the data generated using overtime funds. The Biology/DNA Detail will use funds to update all current excel workbooks for the new Capillary Electrophoresis instrument, Y-STR amplification kit, and data analysis software that will be purchased and validated on this grant.
