Dakota Access Pipeline Protests

As part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017, Public Law 115-31, Congress set aside a total of $15,000,000 for emergency law enforcement assistance for events occurring during fiscal years 2016 and 2017, as authorized by section 609M of the Justice Assistance Act of 1984 (42 U.S.C. 10501; Public Law 98–473). The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation award will be used to assist with reimbursement for law enforcement activities in response to the protests of the Dakota Access Pipeline, which required an extraordinary, precipitous increase in law enforcement to manage order at the protest location.
