Phoenix Police Department FY 2018 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant Program.

Coverdell discretionary funds are requested to fund the acquisition and deployment of a 3D laser scanner for use in crime scene documentation. The vastly increased speed of automated scanning as compared to traditional photo-documentation, sketching and measurements combined with the data collected within the “point cloud” will result in observed increases in efficiency and the quality of the work produced.

The leveraging of this readily available and proven technology within the field of forensics is anticipated to increase the effectiveness of the LSB’s Crime Scene Unit without adding additional personnel. ca/ncf
