Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $1,974,883)

The goals for this grant are to reduce backlog and reduce the overall turnaround time for handling, screening, analyzing, and reviewing forensic biology/DNA samples. Increasing the capacity and efficiency of our DNA programs will be the key elements to achieving these goals.
The Bureau of Forensic Services (BFS) proposes to achieve these goals by: Funding overtime for casework analysis; providing training for casework and Data Bank analysts; and purchasing equipment for casework and Data Bank analysis BFS expects to complete 330 additional DNA cases using grant funding for overtime by the end of the award period.
